After a five-year hiatus, Tennessee trio Paramore have released their sixth studio album, This Is Why. It’s a gritty, yet mature post-punk record trying to tackle the impossible questions surrounding the state of the post-pandemic world.

“This is Why,” the title track, immediately sets the tone and signals internal paranoia which can relate to what we’ve all been going through over the past few years, as well as struggles with mental health. “This is why / I don’t leave the house / You say the coast is clear / But you won’t catch me out,” sings front woman Hayley Williams.

Musically, the album fires on all cylinders, such as Russell Lissack’s signature guitar licks on “You First” and “Figure 8”, and heartbreaking anthems like “Thick Skull”.
