Motion City Soundtrack’s keyboardist Jesse Johnson made it clear that the five-piece rock group is no stranger to Milwaukee. Johnson spoke to a packed room Wednesday night, sharing that the show marked their 18th appearance at The Rave in 19 years. Formed five hours away in Minneapolis, the band has been a favorite among the Midwest punk scene dating back to the early 2000s.

They’re currently touring to support the 17th anniversary of their commercial breakthrough album, Commit This To Memory. The 2005 album features favorites like “Everything is Alright”, “Hold Me Down” and “L.G. Fuad”.

Motion City Soundtrack kicked off the night by playing the album in its entirety. A second set followed featuring a mix of old favorites like “My Favorite Accident” and “This Is For Real”, as well as new songs like “Crooked Ways”. They ended the night with fans singing along to “The Future Freaks Me Out” from their debut album, I Am The Movie.

The first leg of their 42-date tour will come to an end this weekend with two nights in the band’s hometown of Minneapolis. They’ll hit the road again this September playing more dates in the central U.S. and along the East Coast.
