Syd Breaks Hearts At Chicago’s Thalia Hall [Recap & Gallery]

“Damn Chicago, you might be my favorite” said Sydney Bennett (aka Syd) in front of a sold out crowd at Chicago’s Thalia Hall Wednesday night. The alternative R&B singer is nearing the end of her current leg of a North American tour.

Syd is supporting her 2022 sophomore album, Broken Hearts Club, which was met with widespread critical acclaim. As described by Pitchfork, who gave the album an impressive 7.5 rating, “Syd reshapes heartbreak into pillowy, ’80s-nodding R&B.” As evident by the album’s title, the singer says it’s about her first real heartbreak and the inevitable emotional shitstorm that follows.

Syd’s latest journey as a solo artist comes after working with hip-hop collective Odd Future, and her Grammy-nominated band The Internet. She played favorites from a catalog of group and solo projects Wednesday night.
