The Flaming Lips Treat Fans To Extended Set At Chicago’s Riviera Theatre

The Flaming Lips waste no time when it comes to entertaining concert goers with loads of confetti, mechanical birds and bubbles. That all came during just the first song at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre Wednesday night. And that was just the beginning. As we’ve come to expect from The Flaming Lips, the entire night was adorned with giant robots, inflatable rainbows, balloons and even more confetti.

The three-time Grammy Award-winning psychedelic rock band recently kicked off a 16-date tour with Chicago being just their third stop. While the band is supporting their most recent album, 2020’s American Head, their Chicago set was full of hits and fan favorites from their expansive 30yr career. A last minute cancellation by the scheduled opener, Heartless Bastards, allowed for an extended setlist, including four encores.

Fans were surprised with one encore in particular - “Oh My Pregnant Head (Labia in the Sunlight)” from 1993’s Transmissions From The Satellite Heart - a song the band hasn’t played live in nearly eight years. The night also included live standards like “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, Pt. 1” and “Do You Realize??”.
